I live alone but love to shop at Costco – here’s how I can save money for bulk purchases

COSTCO is known for offering its products in bulk to shoppers at a discount.

The wholesaler has a variety of divisions in its warehouses including its focus on basic items such as poultry, bread, dairy and kitchen products.

But keep in mind that in most cases you can only shop at Costco if you have a membership or store card (gift card).

For those who may be new to Costco or looking for new products in bulk to try, expert Catherine Konda has come up with a list of essential products to buy in her warehouse.

Recently disclosed writing Hey hoShe said it’s important to buy in bulk as a solo shopper because it reduces food waste.

She says you can save loads if you do so with a Costco Executive Membership.

Catherine says that prices for dairy products like milk and eggs are low compared to other groceries and last a long time.

Many of them are said to have a reasonable shelf life and can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a tasty treat.

Even better, it won’t cost much with a package of twenty large cage-free Kirkland eggs costing about $3.60 and a gallon of Kirkland 2% milk for a total of no more than $3.44.

For an extra shelf life, Catherine also recommends not keeping milk in the refrigerator door because it spoils quickly there.

Bread is a staple in every household, and Catherine points out that whole grains are the way to go.

Some items, such as Stroehmann, can be brought in bulk and are said to be half the price ($3.89 for two loaves) of their nearest competitor.

When shopping alone, she advises those on a budget to store one loaf in your refrigerator and one in your freezer.

By applying this method, Katherine says you can split a soft sandwich loaf and a frozen loaf for toasting.

Plus, finding floppy items that will last longer in your cupboards, such as peanut butter and jam, are excellent options when you’re looking to make the most of your supplies.

Fresh fruit is a healthy way to curb sugar cravings, and Catherine says Costco has no shortage of good deals.

“You won’t find a better value for berries,” she told the outlet.

Experts claim customers can carry a 2-pound container of blueberries for $6.49 and a 12-ounce package of blueberries for $4.49.

These sprinkles can be in a number of breakfast items like yogurt and cereal and can serve as a “perfect balanced treat,” she adds.

Chicken is the most consumed meat in the United States for good reason and Catherine thinks Costco has some of the best deals.

According to her findings, she said Kirkland chicken breasts are always $2.89 a pound already sealed in portion size packages.

Stores well in the refrigerator, cane sugar can be prepared for your meals in a myriad of ways.

“Once it’s ready, I’ll keep it in the fridge and toss it into salads, wraps, pasta, and ramen,” she said.

“I even have it cold from the fridge when I need a protein boost in the afternoon.”

toilet paper

Toilet paper regularly finds itself on the list of best-selling items at Costco as panicked shoppers scrambled to get it during the coronavirus pandemic.

These days, Catherine says her value remains as good as ever and ideal for single people who live alone.

It claims to cost only $14.79 for 12 packs of paper towels and $16.99 for 30 packs of toilet paper.

“I rarely have to repurchase these because they are so long lasting,” she said. “And if you split the price per roll, that would be a steal.”
