I’m a skincare expert, there are three products you shouldn’t bother using and why charcoal masks aren’t really worth it

A SKINCARE expert has lifted the lid on three popular beauty trends and why she thinks they’re a complete waste of time.

Dermatologist Dr. Amna Adel, who works in London and has a profile on TikTok under the name @dermatology.doctorshared her thoughts on the three popular products in a post called Skincare That Doesn’t Do Good.

In the short clip, Dr. Adel told her 291,000 followers that charcoal face masks aren’t all they’ve done.

The skin expert described it as “too harsh,” and said it can “damage the skin” in the long run.

When one of her followers asked her to delve into the topic further, she also shared some other facts about why she believes charcoal masks should be avoided.

Dr. Adel replied, “There are certain forms that are very sticky to the skin, so remove the surface layer of the skin which leads to irritation and inflammation.”

She then moved on to share why she doesn’t like facial icing – a cryotherapy where ice is applied directly to the skin.

The dermatologist explained that this common technique “has no long-term benefit” and can also “cause cold burns.”

She later added in the comments section that while it “can help reduce inflammation and puffiness temporarily, it doesn’t have long-term benefits for the skin.”

The third and final product that Dr. Adel highlighted is the eye masks that are placed under the eyes.

She said she often “goes beyond a promise” and gets expensive, before suggesting other things she thinks work better.

The social media user continued: “Eye creams and face creams are more consistent in use and cheaper.”

She continued, “Eye creams/serums/moisturizers are less expensive and are better used daily than eye masks but are nice as a treatment here and there.”

Dr. Adel has also shared other videos in the past, including how the only three skincare products you need are a good cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
