CNN New Day Weekend anchor Kristi Paul announced on air Sunday that she is leaving her role and the news network after nearly 20 years.
“I’m part of the ‘Great Resignation,'” Paul said when she revealed that The Day Show would be her last. The former presenter said the decision was made in January, claiming an early-morning weekend schedule interfered with her role as wife and mother.
She and her family return to her hometown of Ohio where she will be joining another news station, although she has remained silent about the details of her new job. “At one point, my husband and I looked at each other and said, ‘We need to go home,'” she told her host, Boris Sanchez.
“The work we do is important…but at the end of the day, someone will be sitting on that bench and the show will continue as it should,” she continued. “But no one else will be the mother of my children. And no one else will be my husband’s wife or my parents’ children, and I need to be fully present there.”

“Friends, I am overwhelmed by your kindness!” she chirp after the show. “Thank you to amandacarpenter, brianstelter, @MarkHertlingCedricLeighton and everyone who has allowed me to invade your morning space for the past nine years, and for the very generous words you send! I sincerely appreciate each and every one of you!”
