Actor/comedian Joel McHale, from successful series such as social communication And the star girlHe displayed his comedic muscles at a young age as a way to make up for a tough time at school.
McHale has dyslexia, a learning disorder that affects how he sees letters and numbers. It has nothing to do with intelligence, but teachers described McHale as a “slow beginner” when he had difficulty reading and writing. McHale told Showbiz Cheat Sheet his teachers seemed puzzled by his struggles at school.
He remembers the teachers’ reactions: “They were like, ‘He seems really compatible with her.'” But then I put a pen in his hand and forgot about it, he’s the slowest. And it will just take forever. But yes, I was very fortunate to have good friends who supported me. And I played a lot of sports, I did a lot of acting, and I avoided school completely.”

“I’m very dyslexic, so I made up for everything with comedy. I remember seeing the words, like, ‘Through’, ‘Through’, though, he remembers. ‘I was like, ‘What am I supposed to do with this?'” Then like, counselor, counselor. To this day, I have to be like, which one is it? And so, yes, I told a lot of jokes and had two friends who had a lot of thieves. They were better students than me. And I just thought I should do this until the real job police come and take me away.”
He made jokes to cover up the pain of branding. “You don’t realize how it affects you and then you’ll like it, well,” he said of how memories of the struggle in school will come back. “Because it’s just coming back to you subconsciously, it’s like, OK, you’re slow, so you’re not going to get this. And I just remember thinking about acting, I was like, ‘If I can trick people into letting me do this, I’ll be fine.'”
McHale didn’t realize he had dyslexia until late in his life. “Both my sons [dyslexic],” he said. “When they were evaluated, they would describe everything, how they saw things. And I said, “Oh, that’s me.” And they’re like, “Oh, yeah, we’re wondering if it’s you or your wife.” Because it is transmitted. ‘thanks Dad.’ And so I was told that I was slow as a kid, I was slow at first. And I remember telling my pediatrician like I couldn’t believe they were going to tell second graders it was slow.”

He had some favorite comedies when he was growing up. “I think between Richard Pryor and Steve Martin. And Monty Python and Mel Brooks, whom I met. I worked with Steve Martin and Mel Brooks.
