Chelsea Jones, a young mother killed by a bullet fired across a lake in Akron, Ohio, was a ‘beautiful soul’

Her boyfriend said the woman who was killed this week after a bullet flew across a lake and had a young mother in the head was lounging on a sofa inside her Ohio home after watching the Fourth of July fireworks.

Chelsea Jones, 26, said she left behind her two daughters, aged six and three, as well as her partner, Michael Hartney. News 5 ABC. No arrests were made in the bizarre incident that occurred on Monday night.

“It’s just a weird, meaningless accident,” Hartney said.

Until 10:30 p.m., Hartney remembers, the family watched fireworks at their home in Akron. But when they headed inside for the night, Hartney said Jones stayed downstairs watching TV while retiring in bed.

A little over an hour later, Hartney said a bullet flew through a window facing the lake and hit Jones in his sleep. Her moan woke him up and rushed downstairs.

There, Hartney said he found Jones lying in a pile of blood. He noticed a lump in her head, but had no idea at the time it was from a gunshot wound. Call 911.

“Police initially started asking questions about whether we had guns in the house or had suicidal tendencies,” Hartney said, according to News 5 ABC. And I’m like, ‘Why are you asking about weapons?’ “It was then announced that he had been shot in the head.”

A report from the Summit County medical examiner confirmed that Jones died of a bullet wound to the head.

Authorities don’t know who shot, and Akron Police Lt. Michael Miller admitted that tracking down Jones’ killer could be a “challenge.” A video from the main image taken by Fox 8 shows a bullet hole in the lower right corner of the window.

Police said two 9mm casings were found on the dock of a boat a quarter mile across Summit Lake where Jones and Hartney lived, although it hasn’t been confirmed that these casings were from the bullet that killed Jones.

Dozens of people on Facebook have been posting photos and posts to mourn Jones’ death, describing the young mother asBeautiful spirit“that was”Always smiling and so bright. “

“Life really isn’t fair,” Amber Lynn Foster wrote, referring to Jones. “My heart has been broken since I got the call yesterday. You are a beautiful soul and should have been with us for many more years. I don’t even understand how this happened. My wedding day wouldn’t be the same without you standing with us. I love you always.”

Another poster, Brooke Wilson, said Jones remained on life support on Wednesday to allow her organ donation.

“Please pray that her life will save lives and help as many people as possible,” Wilson said.

Wilson, Foster and Hartney did not respond to interview requests from The Daily Beast via Facebook messenger and phone calls.

Hartney told ABC News 5 that he believed the shooting was “most likely an accident” and appealed to officials to turn themselves in.

Officials from Summit County Crimestoppers said Wednesday that a reward of up to $5,000 will be given to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and indictment.

“I know it might have been an accident,” Hartney said. “I know it wasn’t malicious, but they should be held accountable for what they did. They took my girlfriend away. They took my soon-to-be fiancée. They took the mother of two girls.”
