Project host Tommy Little says he ‘feels like a crook’ after charity swim fails

Tommy Little, host of ‘Shattered’ project, says he ‘feels like a hustler’ after charity swim fails: ‘Lots of people donated money – and we’re not done’

Tommy Little has expressed his deep regret after failing to complete a charity swim from the UK to Belgium.

The comedian, 27, had set out to swim to raise money for a spinal cord charity over the weekend, but had to stop halfway after French authorities threatened to intercept his team’s boat.

“I’m devastated and embarrassed, I talked about this swim about six months ago,” he said on Monday’s episode of The Project.

Lots of people have donated money which is going to a great cause, and we’re not done. “And if you don’t think it’s embarrassing…we even have world record shirts with our names on it, and where are we going to wear them?” lamented.

Tommy, who has endured months of hard training and fundraising, admitted he was “still devastated” by the turn of events at the weekend.

The funnyman explained that his swimming team was denied entry to French waters despite having received approval for the course to take, as ‘local officials decided it had become too dangerous’.

“So they pulled the pin and told us we needed to get out, and if we didn’t, they would intercept our boat,” he said, explaining that there would be dire consequences including a lawsuit and ‘huge fines’ if they refused.

He later admitted: “If I were to do it again, I would do it quietly and not tell anyone. People pledge money and donate money, and then you feel like you end up with some fraud. But it was something that was out of my control.

Co-host Carrie Bickmore assured Tommy that he had nothing to be ashamed of, and that it was great that he put his “body on the line for an incredible cause.”

The comedian said of the incident: ‘I’ve been strict instructed not to go overboard and call French ‘d**kheads…but I’ll call them w**kers,’ which I think is a French word. During The Sunday Project this weekend.
