Today BEATS Sunrise is in the ratings after David Koch takes time off to attend his daughter’s wedding – as Breakfast Nine benefits from late-night Wimbledon coverage
Today’s Channel Nine show has bridged the gap with Seven Network Sunrise competitors in the battle of TV breakfast ratings.
Today, who recently slipped to third behind ABC News Breakfast, scored a rare victory over Sunrise on Monday.
The show attracted an average audience of 206,000 people across the five capitals, which was more than “Australia’s No. 1” Sunrise, which received 190,000 viewers by metro.

Today likely benefited from Nine’s late-night coverage of Wimbledon, as viewers tuned in after watching tennis into the wee hours.
Sunrise also saw a drop in ratings while co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch was on annual leave.
The father-of-four, 66, who has hosted the flagship breakfast restaurant since 2002, announced last month that he would be out of business for about three weeks.

Ratings for the breakfast program dropped to 207,000 in the first week that Kochie was absent, woman’s Day reports.
That gave The Today Show, which was fronted by Karl Stefanovic and Alison Langdon, a chance to catch up, and it hit 200,000 in the same week.
The thin margin between the two widths is an encouraging sign for the day.

Koch’s temporary replacement at Sunrise is Matt Shervington, the Olympian-turned-athlete who now appears to be his regular player.
Koch said June 23 that he was looking forward to walking his daughter Georgie down the aisle at her wedding in England.
Georgie tied the knot with her longtime partner Alex Merkel, known as the “German” of the Koch family, in Regent’s Park, London on Sunday.
It was announced in June that the father of four, 66, who has hosted Channel Seven’s breakfast show since 2002, would be taking a break for about three weeks.
