Bayonetta 3 is rated, which indicates a release date may be on the horizon

It looks like the much-anticipated Bayonetta 3 from PlatinumGames has been ranked, which indicates that a release date will be announced soon.

As spotted by a Twitter user The_MarmoladeIn the United States, the publisher Nintendo’s website lists the game as rated M by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

The game product page lists ESRB content descriptors including violence, blood and blood, partial nudity, strong language, and in-game purchases.

The game has also been provisionally rated 18 by the European rating agency PEGI, according to Nintendo’s UK website.

It’s worth noting that while these ratings are displayed on Nintendo’s websites, Bayonetta 3 is not yet listed as being rated when searched on the ESRB and PEGI websites.

Platinum’s Switch Action sequel was first announced with a brief teaser at the Game Awards in December 2017, but then nothing else from the game has been seen for nearly four years.

Bayonetta 3 finally reappeared in September 2021 with the first in-game trailer, which showcased Bayonetta’s new ability to control demons.

It also confirmed plans to launch the game in 2022. This release window was accurate as of Nintendo’s last quarterly earnings report, which was published in May.

The trailer also revealed The Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain designer Yusuke Miyata as the director of the Bayonetta 3 game.

According to the Nintendo Store listing for the game, Bayonetta 3 sees the titular Umbra Witch take on a mysterious villain with her signature guns and the time-slowing Witch ability, along with her new power.

“Bayonita bravely fights on the streets of Tokyo against a mysterious enemy bent on plunging humanity into the depths of chaos,” the book reads.

“Why is it there? And has the enemy already established its grip on other worlds?”
