Of all the items in the modern wardrobe reimagined as tracksuits (you can buy a full suit in this now-popular style), the Oxford shirt is the one I’ve been waiting for the longest. I love a good, classic, button-up oxford – quite a few shirts I’ve worn have been cut in this style – but it has a few drawbacks that often limit its wear to dry, air-conditioned environments. Looks like Lululemon once again somehow had a direct line in my mind. The brand has managed to virtually eliminate all the weaknesses of the oxford shirt by using a smart, clean design and a more dynamic material for Reimagining the classic wardrobe.

Committee long sleeve shirt It looks and fits just like all of my favorite oxfords that have become shabby and super soft for thousands of hours on my back or in the washing machine. The shirt is still made mostly of cotton, but, crucially, the other half is made of a material called elastometroester, a polyester-based material that provides functionality that has always been missing from this classic shirt. This allows the shirt to maintain its comfortable fit and the great feel that made me fall in love with it in the first place.
By adding a secondary material to the bottom button display, Lululemon made his shirt sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and odor-resistant in one major stroke. All of these qualities are largely absent in the cotton shirts that have been the norm for so long. Many of my favorite oxfords have always been subject to wear and tear after a year or two of heavy use and often heat up very quickly too. Committee shirt It is less washable due to its odor resistance and has built-in perforations for improved breathability which depends on the superior breathability that the material allows.
Despite this, the greatest innovation that the updated fabric of the genre has to bring is that for the first time, I have an Oxford shirt that moves with me. While the materials themselves inherently allow for more movement, the underarm gussets (a feature I’ve never found on any other long sleeve button-down shirt I own) give me more play in the exact spot that Oxford shirts traditionally tend to restrict.
While I still love and cherish the old T-shirts I’ve kept all these years, I’m happy to know that there is a more modern and viable alternative that I can wear for longer periods of time and in a variety of environments. If you are looking for classic oxford button style but with some 21st century tweaks, Committee shirt is the way to go.
