“Felicity” Hunk Scott Speedman is a massive porn star

One would be hard pressed to find anything in common between two of the summer’s most famous Indies: David Cronenberg’s dystopian horror film future crimes The satirical sex comedy of Lena Dunham sharp stick.

Each movie is provocative in its own way. Cronenberg dares the viewer to turn around as Viggo Mortenson exposes his private organs for digging, while Dunham’s film focuses on his twenties arranging for random men who come for anal sex and bukkake. Each cast is played by an anti-genre actor, with Kristen Stewart as a mushy (and horny) research assistant in future crimesand Dunham herself as Silicon Valley-type moms Sharp stick.

Perhaps the film’s most surprising unifying factor is its casting: an actor who appears in both films, playing radically different roles. This summer, Scott Speedman is having a moment — and not one that those who love him have been expecting since his teenage drama days.

While watching Speedman – otherwise known as emotionally unavailable love on Felicity For a certain generation, one hot guy You are or instinct anatomy To someone else – he presented the corpse of his dead son for the sake of performance art in future crimes Incredibly weird, it’s his work in it sharp stick That he was “terrified” much more.

sharp stick Speedman told The Daily Beast last week before that sharp stickTheatrical performance on Friday. “The porn side, and what was I going to do… Like, what would the porn scenes be like? Did I really want to do all that?”

Speedman plays porn star Vance LeRoy, whose naïve heroine Sarah Jo (Kristen Frosyth) has become obsessed with. It’s a perfect choice for awkward girls who dip their toes into PornHub’s catalog: non-threatening sexual intercourse, that knows how to make a girl feel good in every possible way.

“[Vance is] He’s super cute and cute – the anti-porn star, basically, Speedman said. He has a OnlyFans account and talks to him [co-stars] in certain ways. He’s very supportive, and that kind of made me laugh.”

Speedman is mostly limited to Sarah Jo watching him on OnlyFans, complimenting his partners in strangely interesting and useful ways. His authenticity is so ingrained in his character that Vance makes an emphatic and funny monologue at the end of the movie. Sarah Jo, at her lowest point, sends Vance a heartfelt letter, thanking him for helping her embrace her sexuality. His response to the video on the other hand is sharp stickBest scene, soulful talk for ages: Even if Sarah Jo feels like she doesn’t know what she’s doing in the bedroom, says Vance, everything will be fine. “No one is a sex genius,” he told her. And he should know: he gets paid to have sex with people.

while speedman sharp stick The performance is limited to a few scenes – “We shot [for] Once upon a time, “he said — the actor was so raved about it. Since the premiere of Sundance, critics have referred to his performance as”just unbelievable“very funny,” And the “Fabulous. These glowing reactions are unsurprising to viewers, but Speedman accepts them shyly. (He said he doesn’t even want his mom to see her—which is so embarrassing.)

“Yes has become a huge part of my vocabulary,” he said, explaining why the role that required him to be naked in front of the camera was something he himself wanted to do. “When things like this come on, I used to rip my hair…Now I’m more likely to jump in and go for it, and see where that takes me.”

Vance Leroy definitely stands out in the Speedman movie, especially to his biggest fans. But at the same time, Vance could be an alternate universe version of Ben Covington, his breakout role in the college kids drama of the early 2000s. Felicity. Ben wasn’t all that different from Vance, a bad boy who was also his sweetheart. More importantly, Ben falls in love with Felicity (Keri Russell), Compete for her emotions With the classic Nice Guy Noel (Scott Foley). This means that viewers who identified Felicity were in love with Ben as well, even if it also caused a lot of heartache.

In fact, part of the reason I wanted to chat with Speedman in the first place is because one of my closest friends is the die-hard Ben Covington. You messaged me very privately. FelicityRelated questions to ask him, most of which I did not touch, for fear of frightening the actor. (Sorry Sam.)

But Speedman certainly realizes that there is still a lot to do Felicity Fans out there, for whom Ben had their first teenage crush. “Now I have mothers and daughters coming to me, mothers who have been watching [Felicity] 20 years ago, their daughters were now watching it. So that’s cool. I am happy with that “.

(In case you were wondering, he thought it was “kinda funny” when Keri Russell said Cut her beautiful curls Between the first and second seasons of the show. When Russell, whom he was dating at the time, saw her new buzz cut, “I told her it looked like a chia pet on her head.”)

But what Speedman hopes his fans will start bringing to him, in an ideal world, is his work in it future crimes. He plays a father grieving over the murder of his young son; The boy’s mother kills their child after he is tired of his extreme hunger for inedible things. Speedman ends up introducing his son’s body to the character of Viggo Mortensen, a famous performance artist whose body and organs represent his canvas. Speedman wants Mortensen to surgically open his son’s body as he does his own, so that the boy’s damaged insides can be shown to angry onlookers as part of Mortensen’s act.

It’s gross, but Speedman loved it.

“I had so much fun making this movie,” he said. “Part of it was working with Cronenberg, who is the kindest, sweetest, most open and generous man [that] I have worked with. It’s unbelievable. And the cast was top notch — to me that was exciting in itself.” Along with Kristen Stewart, Speedman worked opposite award-winning co-stars Mortensen and Lea Seydoux.

To be clear, the role found itself emotionally exhausting. But the set was surprisingly fun, and the work was something he’s still very proud of. As the man whose new motto is “Yes,” Speedman is sure to thrill to work at the Cronenberg Festival of Physical Horror.

The big question: Speedman won’t let his mom see sharp stickbut what about future crimes? He wants her to watch, but that probably isn’t happening either.

“We were in Toronto for [Crimes of the Future] Premiere “- his mother lives in the city-” and my mother was, I think [I’m good.]”
