Football and Hollywood stars appeal for more donations to Ukraine

Borodianka Hollywood actor Liev Schreiber and former Ukrainian soccer star Andriy Shevchenko appealed for continued international donations to Ukraine during a visit on Monday to a residential area outside Kyiv that was badly damaged by Russian bombing.

“People see it as a one-off thing. You see, people live with it every day,” said Schreiber, who starred in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

“It’s a cowardly move,” Schreiber said, pointing to a damaged apartment building in Borodinka, 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Kyiv.

Borodinka is located in the Bucha region, where hundreds of civilian deaths were discovered after the Russian occupation and then retreated in late March. Ukrainian authorities said 16,000 apartment buildings were damaged in the area.

Schreiber, who is of Ukrainian ancestry and is involved in many charitable initiatives of the country, earlier met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
