Cowboys quarterback Duck Prescott team left Sunday Night Football The game is against the Buccaneers early Sunday after suffering a broken thumb.
The 29-year-old will miss six to eight weeks due to an injury, Todd Archer from ESPN reported on Monday. Prescott will have surgery on Monday in which a pin and plate will be inserted to stabilize the joint. It is expected that he will be placed on the list of injured reserves.
After Prescott left the game and underwent tests in the locker room, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy received the unfortunate news of the quarterback as he was leaving the field after the team lost 19-3.
The camera caught his real reaction. Although it was hard to see what the coach said after the coach pointed his thumb, McCarthy seemed upset by the news.
Prescott’s thumb fracture is the second major injury he has suffered during his NFL career. In 2020, the midfielder played only five matches after sustaining an ankle injury. This time around, though, the Cowboys star has a comeback schedule for this season.
Dallas is out of the 12-5 season last year. The team’s playoff round was cut short in the 49ers loss.
This season has been crucial for McCarthy to maintain his job as head coach of the Cowboys. Things are even more difficult now for the 58-year-old as he will be without the midfielder for nearly half of the season.
