The Great British Bake Off returns for a brand new season on Channel 4.
Dozens of amateur bakers will eventually be narrowed down to just one for that all-important prize, but that’s not what you’d expect.

With all the drama, sweat and tears that the dedicated bakers of The Great British Bake Off go through, you’d expect they’d be targeting some big cash prizes, but the answer is no.
The winning prize is a flowerpot and a cake stand.
Martha Collison, former Bake Off contestant who reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 series barrelhouse: “Everyone is so surprised they think there must be some secret cash, but all we really get is a bouquet of flowers and a cake stand.
“But then you can also kind of become a national treasure just by doing that because everyone in Britain loves Bake Off so much.”

What else does the winner get?
Besides the flowers and cake stand, many Bake Off stars go on to earn huge amounts of money by appearing, cookbooks and launching cooking schools.
Nadia Hussain is undoubtedly Bake Off’s greatest success story, and since then she has written several columns for newspapers, fronted the TV show The Chronicles of Nadiya, released a best-selling cookbook and became a guest host on Bulk Woman.
She was also chosen to bake a cake for the late Queen Elizabeth’s birthday when the king turned 90 in April 2016.
Series 12 winner Giuseppe del Ano announced the release of his first cookbook in May 2022.
Dell’Anno beat the competition for the 2021 Cup, and the book marks one of Baker’s first projects since being crowned Channel 4 Series Champion.

The new season of The Great British Bake Off returns to Channel 4 on September 13, 2022 at 8pm.
New episodes will air every Tuesday.
Twelve new bakers have entered the tent hoping to crown the series winner as they compete to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Bro Leith.
Paul has brought up some completely new challenges this year, including Mexican Week and Custard Week.
