The song “Don’t Worry Baby” ignores the drama, opening with $19.2 million

After off-screen drama threatened to consume Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling,” Warner Bros.’s No. 1 release opened at the box office, debuting $19.2 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

Starring Florence Bow and Harry Styles, “Don’t Worry Baby” Storm of disagreements That revolved around everything from Pew’s alleged strained relationship with Wilde to whether Styles might be spitting on co-star Chris Pine at the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival. (Styles rejected it.) The film, too, was burnt by critics (38% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and arrived in cinemas with more baggage than any recent release.

For the original movie, which cost $35 million to produce, its $19.2 million release was solid — and a little more than the studio had expected. A slew of moviegoers – including plenty of style lovers – showed up to find out what all the fuss was about.

But the release of Don’t Worry Darling, which was shown in 4113 theaters, was also not a home run. Audiences gave it a B- CinemaScore, and ticket buyers fell on Saturday after more promising results on Thursday and Friday. She said 66% of viewers are female and the film added $10.8 million internationally.

Jeff Goldstein, director of distribution at Warner Bros. , that “background noise had a neutral effect”. He said the studio was “delighted with these results given our modest production budget.”

Audience results and dwindling ticket sales indicate that “Don’t Worry Baby” may struggle to hold up in the coming weeks. But its good enough start means that Wilde’s movie didn’t turn out to be the outright failure some have associated with it.

Bad publicity was ultimately good publicity to pursue Wilde’s directorial debut, the 2019 teen comedy “Booksmart,” said Paul Dergarabedian, chief media analyst at data firm Comscore.

“Olivia Wilde’s latest film capitalized on the increased awareness and mainstream press that made ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ the default water-cooler movie right now and elevate its FOMO factor to even greater heights, and this has grossed big at the box office,” Dergarabedian said.

best movie last week, Gina Prince-Bethwood’s African epic “The King’s Woman” Starring Viola Davis, it slipped to number two with $11.1 million in its second weekend of release. This was a modest 42% drop in Sony Pictures’ release, and it’s a sign of resilience in the acclaimed action drama.

Third place went to the familiar box office force. The Walt Disney Company. James Cameron’s avatar reissue It grossed $10 million domestically and $20.5 million internationally, 13 years after its initial showing in theaters. Screened in 1860 theaters, Cameron’s “Avatar” is popular again especially in 3-D, which accounts for 93% of its domestic sales. A precursor to the upcoming December release of the much-anticipated sequel “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the re-release raises the box office record for “Avatar,” which has now surpassed $2.85 billion.

At number four was “The Barbarian”, the Airbnb thriller from Disney and 20th Century Studios. In its third weekend of release, the film added 550 theaters and was down only 26% from the previous weekend. “The Barbarian” has so far made $28.4 million against a budget of $4 million.
