1. The Fox College Football Preliminary Show was held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday for the Maryland-Michigan game.
Urban Meyer was a hit in Ohio back in the day, making him an unpopular figure in the Wolverine Territory.
Given Meyer’s utterly disastrous stint in the NFL and the fact that he became one of the internet’s most iconic thanks to his various feuds with the Jaguars last season (which made Fox feel embarrassed to bring him back to his previous show), you’d imagine the scene in the Big House would be full of streamers. anti-cities.
However, that wasn’t the case, and this tweet was sent out on Saturday morning.
I reached out to Fox to find out if they actually banned Urban Meyer banners on their previous show, and this was the statement from the spokesperson:
Our policy was the same every weekend – no inappropriate mentions. There is no separate policy. They are just inappropriate signals across the board.”
This begs the question: What is considered “inappropriate” when it comes to cues in the pre-match show? This statement sounds like that old line about porn from a Supreme Court judge: “I know it when I see it.”
Is it “inappropriate” to put this picture on a banner and bring it to a pre-college football display?
I say no. But I’m sure Meyer didn’t want to see that picture behind him on set for a few hours, and I’m sure Fox got people off any signs that picture shows.
Fox says he didn’t do a specific Mayer’s policy, but someone in the network clearly decided that they wouldn’t allow Michigan fans to have any of the pictures of Mayer’s famous night at a Columbus, Ohio bar on screen.
Meanwhile, with Mayer’s departure, the 2–1 teams have become feisty and one of the most fun teams in the league to watch. Jacksonville has won three games this season, equal to Mayer’s 13 games last season.
This might be mature fodder for anyone wanting to make a sign mocking Meyer. The question is whether Fox would consider this inappropriate.
2. The second game for Amazon Prime Thursday night footballThe Steelers at the Browns drew 11 million viewers. Chargers-Chiefs attracted 13 million viewers the previous week. The drop wasn’t entirely unexpected, considering that one of the games featured Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes and the other featured Mitch Trubesky and Jacobi Brissett.
What could end up being a much bigger challenge Thursday night football Don’t make people realize that it only airs on Amazon Prime. Is that the schedule has some problems. TNF has a very good game this week with the dolphins visiting the Bengals. But then Amazon Prime has ponies in the Broncos and leaders in the Bears.
3. A note to fellow delinquents: engage in substandard betting.
