Before College Football Playoff expands, many questions remain

Greg Sankey opened the doors and broke into the circle of reporters assembled in the lobby of the Big Ten headquarters in Rosemont, Illinois. The SEC commissioner took a deep breath inward as if he was seconds away from a major announcement, and perhaps a breakthrough in negotiations for expanded college football.

“My quote is this!” He shouted, and then, as he darted toward the door, Sankey smiled and pointed at CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock, “Whatever he said!”

The 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame sporting director Jack Swarbrick met for nearly 10 hours over two days here. Hancock says the group has “make progress” toward the ultimate goal – expanding College Football Playoff by 2024 – but no details, answers or details have been provided. No final decisions have been made (or at least not announced).
