Some thoughts on quarterbacks in Week 4:
Billy Zappy, New England Patriots
It stuck to my neck on Tuesday with a possible start for the Patriots this week. With Mac Jones out for multiple games, Brian Hoyer had no ceiling or appeal to lead New England to many victories. Over his last 15 games, he’s passed for 736 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions. Hoyer makes sense as a short-term cover for Jones. Zappy spent five seasons in Western Kentucky. Controlled in the last 18 games (7800 yards with 80 touchdowns and 12 interceptions). The NFL is the big stage, but losing the starting quarterback to the Patriots calls for drastic action.
Tom BradyTampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs should have a much stronger reception team to take on the Chiefs, setting the stage for Brady to have his best success of the season. I expect him to reward Mike Evans for his support in New Orleans with an oversized goal display.
Zach WilsonNew York Jets
Gates expects Wilson to start this week after missing his first three games with a knee injury. Joe Flacco passed 901 yards and five touchdowns over three games, giving Wilson a boost thanks to an improved foundation around him in attack. However, his first step is to prove himself on the field.
Justin HerbertLos Angeles Chargers
Injuries hit the chargers hard during the first three weeks. The running obstruction has been dismal, and it won’t get any better with LT Rashawn Slater coming off this season with a biceps injury. Herbert played through an injury last week, and struggled to play (297/1 – 6.6 yards per pass attempt). I expect him to recover in the fourth week.
