Her married name, Colonomus, came after she married Benjamin Aaron Colonomos, better known as Ben Aaron, in 2014.

But Ginger stuck with Zee, the name her fans know.

Some viewers have already sought clarification regarding her nickname over the years.

Someone asked, “Is Zee your real family name or is it short for something much longer? Or a stage name? Inquiring minds want to know!”

Earlier this month, someone commented, “You should try using your real name Ginger Rene Colonomus.”

Another asked, “Is Ginger your real name?

In response to a Twitter user, one fan commented, “I hope you know Ginger Z shortened her name.”

On Reddit one fan said, “Ginger Zee is a stage name.

“Her real name is Ginger, but her last name is too long…The name begins with the letter Z.”

Zee was already forced to respond to a viewer this week who accused the meteorologist’s coverage of being theatrical.

It was reporting from Sanibel Island, Florida, on September 27 as part of the network’s coverage of Hurricane Ian.

Zee’s waterproof jacket looked soaked in water as she shared a selfie from a rainy beach location.

She tweeted: “Sanibel Island tonight for ABC World News…don’t worry, we’ve been out of here before [the] The worst of tomorrow’s storm.”

But, one critic responded: “Great play…. I live about 10 miles from where I was and have spent the afternoon in the pool.”

The GMA presenter replied, “The storm isn’t here yet…it’s tomorrow.”

stay safe

Viewers urged Zee to stay safe as she reports on the hurricane.

One fan called the meteorologist a “weather fighter,” while others thanked her for her coverage.

Anxious viewers claimed that Zee couldn’t have chosen a “more dangerous place” to report.

In response to the worried fan, she said, “It was just raining.”

She briefed viewers on the predictions as she traveled to Sanibel Island from Tampa on Tuesday.

The exchange came after trolls accused Zee of providing inaccurate reports.

A row erupted on Twitter after the GMA account tweeted on Tuesday: “All night long: Hurricane Ian strengthened to Category 3, targeting Florida. ABC News Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee tracks down the latest news.”

An account, known as the Ocean Floor Investigations, replied, “How does the #HurricaneIan go from Cat 4 to Cat 3 overnight that somehow ‘strengthens’…?”

Zee replied, “She’s cat 3 now and she’s going to be cat 4 today.”

The discussion escalated after the ocean floor investigations continued questioning.

One publication said, “The problem with this scenario is not how hurricanes work; as hurricanes approach the ground their strength decreases, because hurricanes *need* water to strengthen.”

The account then asked Zee if she knew what she was transmitting.

Twitter “hibernate”

“You’re a meteorologist and you don’t know this?” I tweeted.

Zee eventually replied, “Cat 4 and then went down again to 3 or 2 before landing.

“Yes, I know how Earth and hurricanes work. They don’t like friction. Please don’t use Twitter to challenge my knowledge. It’s all here.”

Dozens of fans gave their support to Zee after the exchange.

Someone said, “I’m not sure what your point is or why you’re challenging Ginger Zi’s knowledge and professionalism. So stop that, it’s trivial and meaningless.

Another commented: “Don’t mess with our weather, O God!!”

And a third that says, “Go, Ginger.”

Meanwhile, fans also expressed concern about co-worker Rob Marciano, who was also working in Florida.

Marciano also briefed Florida residents on what to expect as the storm approaches.

He warned that the Sunshine State would be on the “bad side of the storm”.

Marciano was recently in Bermuda and reported the effects of Hurricane Fiona as the island was getting rainy and heavy storms.
