Start ‘Em, Sit’ Em is the best look at the best and worst matches based on the PPR scoring system in fantasy football. This column will not cover elite NFL players like Josh Allen, Jonathan Taylor or Cooper Cope. Instead, I’ll look at the players you have questions about who can exceed or fail to meet expectations at each position. WEEK 4, START, SIT: QUARTERBACKS | Running from behind | wide receivers | narrow ends | Kickers and team defenses
Start of Week 3: Tight Ends
Beginning of the week
Pat Freermouth vs. Gates (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Freiermuth only had 6.1 Fantasy points last week, but it was his first real stink of the season. What’s more, he has scored at least 7.2 points in his previous nine games dating back to last season. So while the Jets have been pretty tough on sprint ends (only Mark Andrews has scored double digits against them this season), Freiermuth still marked the start.
start ‘Em
Dawson Knox on the Ravens (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Knox had a slow start, scoring an impressive 16.1 points in his first three games. He has seen a combined nine goals in his last two games, and the match against the Ravens is favorable. Their defense has already given up fantasy double-digit points for Tyler Conklin and Mike Jesicki, so Knox must come out of his little slack.
Gerald Everett in Texas (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Everett took a step back last week, scoring just an impressive 4.5 points after starting the season with two double-digit base streaks. I’ll keep rolling with him on a weak stand against the Texans, who haven’t succumbed much to tight ends but haven’t faced any fancy starters either. If you’re in trouble, Everett makes sense in a game that should be dominated by the charger.
Tyler Conklin at the Steelers (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Believe it or not, but Conklin ranks third in fantasy points among the tight ends after three weeks. He tied for third in goals, and only Mark Andrews has more catches. That trend may change with Zach Wilson under center, but Conklin is still worth a look against the Steelers. Their defense just succumbed to a drop and 23.9 points to David Ngoku.

Week 3 Sitting: Tight ends
sit week
Irv Smith Jr. in Saints (London, 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network): Smith returned to Earth last week, scoring just 5.2 after hitting 14.6 in Week 2. This week, he’s going to be taking a risk against the Saints, who have been strong against tough ends. In fact, their defense hasn’t allowed them to drop to center in eight straight games going back to last season. At best, Smith is a risk-reward option in a poor position.
sat down
Evan Ingram at Eagles (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Engram barely missed a score last week, but finished with just 3.9 points in the win over the Chargers. He’s now scored fewer than seven Fantasia points in two of his first three matches with the Jaguars, and the match against the Eagles’ strong defense makes Engram dull. He averaged 8.2 points in four games against Philadelphia.
Hunter Henry at Packers (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): Henry, a top 10 fantasy tight end last season, disappeared from the Patriots attack in 2022. In his first three games, the veteran saw just five goals (six goals less than Juno Smith) and ranks 17th among tight ends in the road. Playback for each PFF. So while beams can be prone to tight ends, Henry simply doesn’t get enough looks to get started.
Logan Thomas at Cowboys (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Thomas is one of the many tight ends that are hard to trust as ordinary fantasy beginners. He failed to score more than 7.5 Fantasy points in two of his first three matches, and his goals fell in every competition. The Cowboys have only allowed two touchdowns on tight ends in each of their last eight games dating back to last year, so Thomas is fading out here.
sitting more
- Cole dumbed down on the Giants (1 p.m. ET, Fox)
- Gilani Woods vs. Titans (1 p.m. ET, CBS)
DFS fading
- Evan Engram at Eagles ($3,400)
- Logan Thomas in Cowboys ($3,300)
