Mykelti gives birth to Avalon at home in ‘Sister Wives’ season 17
On the September 25 episode of sister wives, Kristen went to Utah to help her daughter Mykelti with the birth of her first child. The 26-year-old mother went through for the first time more than 24 hours of active labor during her drug-free home delivery at her home in St. George, Utah. With the help of her husband, Tony, her mother, Christine, and a midwife, her stepmother, fourth wife, Robin Brown, joined her via a video call.
Mykelti’s home birth became dangerous when Avalon’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck several times, causing the baby’s heart rate to drop. With the encouragement of her mother and stepfather, Mykelti successfully gave birth to her healthy baby girl on April 5, 2021.
Mykelti reveals her plan to give birth to her twins in an Instagram update
On September 28, Mykelti gave her Instagram followers an update on her pregnancy with her twin sons. “It was great seeing family and friends last weekend,” Mykelti comments on the post.
“I am 31 weeks pregnant now and counting the days. The boys are healthy and doing well. I have 3 to 7 weeks left to cook these babies,” she concludes. Check out Mykelti’s Instagram post below:
Of course, one of the main questions that Micheletti’s followers wanted to know was her birth plan for twins. It seems that for this birth, Mykelti is going to the hospital. One fan asks: “Will you be able to give birth at home?” To which Mykelti replied, “Unfortunately I am unable to handle the twins.”
As for whether or not she will give birth without medication, Michelet is not sure if she will be able to do so. “Just watched Avalon’s Birthday, you’re amazing. Will boys be born normal?” asks a follower. Myketlti replies: “Depends on the doctor’s recommendation.”
Mother’s history of “sister wives” in natural births at home
Although Tony wasn’t comfortable with giving birth to Mykelti naturally at home, it had always been her dream come true. It has become an old tradition in the Brown family to give birth at home. After Cody’s mother took care of home births, the rest of the family followed suit.
All sister wives gave birth at home. Had a Merry Leo at home with a husband and wife midwife team. Kristen had five of her children at home. Janelle had three at home and three of her children in the hospital. Robin had all five of her children at home.
Janelle explained, “So before I met Cody’s family, I didn’t even know you could have a baby at home anymore. However, this seemed like the old days, kind of groundbreaking thing.” However, she admits that after a home birth, she recommends it more than a hospital birth in terms of recovery.
Kristen and the rest of the Brown family are excited to meet the twins. Kristen is expected to give birth anytime between now and her expected delivery date in December 2022.
New episodes of Sister Wives Season 17 air Sundays at 10PM ET on TLC.
