According to a former royal servant, King Charles III will be part of Prince William’s final transition to the monarch one day. And the new Prince of Wales has already formed a solid foundation for his future role. Read on to learn how Charles’ reign can bridge ancient traditions and contemporary demands and how William can be more than a “king of the people.”
Reluctant Prince William builds foundations for a modern monarchy
Queen Elizabeth ruled for 70 years and left her 73-year-old son to take over after her death at the age of 96. Therefore, it seems likely that Prince William, 40, will be king for much longer than his father. He has already begun sketching out a blueprint for a modern estate in which he would be a beloved chieftain.
William is said to enjoy civilian life so much that he once told his friends that they were lucky they wouldn’t get his future job (Vanity Fair). He was an air ambulance helicopter pilot until 2017, when he gave it up to help with royal duties. But he supposedly had a hard time making that decision.
A royal source said: “There was talk at the palace that the Duke needed to make a decision on whether he wanted to become a pilot or a prince. I think there was a sense of frustration that he didn’t make more official engagements.”
The former royal butler thinks King Charles will be a ‘large part’ of the transition to Prince William
The former royal butler, Grant Harold, said: Slingo He expects King Charles to preserve many of Queen Elizabeth’s traditions while blending some modernity with the formal protocols and etiquette of royal life. Harold worked for Charles for seven years. It is believed that the new king will participate in the transformation of the monarchy to prepare him for William’s vision for the future.
“There will be a transition before Prince William, Charles will be a big part of that. It will be a huge change, and Prince Charles will be the divide between the Queen and William,” Harold explained.
He added that William is already “changing things a lot”, noting that “the Queen would never go up and hug someone, but for William and Kate that is now the normal thing.”
King Charles could help Prince William transition to a less ‘isolated’ monarchy
Harold noted that William’s plan to change the monarchy would likely eventually have some speed bumps. He concluded, “It will not be easy.” He explained that they would need to “tighten budgets” and carefully find a way to do their jobs with attention to how the public perceives their activities.
“The younger members of the royal family have shown that they can’t be conservative,” Harold said. “If they are aloof, it won’t work.”
He added that William is known for his friendly demeanor and “can put himself in anyone’s shoes”, and that people like him more than Charles because he and his wife, Kate Middleton, “show more of their personality”.
That’s why Harold believes that William will be “the king of the people” and strive to improve his country and his world.
