Alex Bowman will not race the cup race at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday after suffering concussion-like symptoms in the wake of his crash at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend.
NASCAR has granted Bowman a waiver that will allow him to advance to the eighth round if he scores enough points on his final return. That will likely require a win next weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
“After undergoing a medical evaluation for concussion-like symptoms, I will not be driving the #48 Chevrolet Ally in Talladega,” Bowman wrote in a statement. “I am disappointed but know that my health is the number one priority. I am committed to following all medical guidelines to ensure that I can return to competition as soon as possible.”
Bowman is the second driver to miss the race due to concussion-like symptoms. Kurt Busch hasn’t been back on the track since his July 23 wreck in Pocono. With six races remaining in the season, Bowman will be replaced by Noah Gragson, According to Dustin Long of NBC Sports.
