Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh provided an update on the condition of assistant coach Mike Hart after collapsing on the sidelines during Saturday’s 31-10 road win over Indiana.
Hart, 36, was taken off the field in the first quarter after suddenly falling to the ground after the Hoosiers touchdown. The sophomore running games coordinator and running coach were reportedly on the alert and responsive as he was taken away and even gave the audience a thumbs up before he was eventually taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
After the match, Harbaugh announced in a statement that Hart experienced a “medical emergency during the match” but is in a “stable condition”. He also expressed his best wishes to Hart after noting that the coach would stay in Bloomington overnight for “continuous monitoring”.
“Mike is a strong man and a lot of prayers are going his way… It really sets the record straight,” Harbow said. “Right now, everyone’s thoughts were with Mike. It was me and everyone around us was going to give him the care he needed… the most important thing was his health at the time.”
The team has not confirmed any details about the cause of Hart’s collapse at this time.
Michigan players and staff were noticeably emotional during the remainder of the inning as contestants Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards appeared comfortably on the sidelines during the broadcast.
