The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah offers an emotional defense of Jon Fetterman

on me daily offer On Wednesday night, Trevor Noah took on the Jon Fetterman interview that “everyone talks” this week. He has made his position clear about the Democratic Senate candidate’s ability to serve the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania despite not having fully recovered from the stroke.

After playing an extended segment of the NBC News interview, in which Fetterman was open about the need to use a closed live captioning system to read questions as the reporter was asking them and could be seen stumbling over the word “sympathy,” Noah addressed those on the right—and elsewhere—who say this It means “unfit” for the Senate.

While he understands that political figures will “jump on any weakness” for their opponent, Noah said, “Let’s be real, folks, if you stumble on a word now and then that makes you ineligible for politics, America won’t have a president for the last six years.” As Fetterman paused to correct himself, the host joked that Biden “would not have seen” and that Trump “would have tried to convince us he got the word right.”

Noah also didn’t find Fetterman’s need to read the annotations “violating the deal,” saying, “I think America needs more people in politics who really know how to read,” as pictures of Marjorie Taylor Green and Herschel Walker appeared on screen.

But the host’s most passionate argument came when he explored what “questions” about Fettermann’s health say about America’s attitude toward disabilities more broadly.

“I don’t believe in Fetterman on Dr. Oz or anything,” he insisted, “but I think this whole discussion veers into the territory of saying PWD can’t be legislators, and that’s rubbish.”

This is especially true, Noah added, because America is holding up lawmakers in Congress right now, referring to both Republicans like Dan Crenshaw, who’s lost an eye, and Democrats like Tammy Duckworth, who’s lost both legs. “And Mitch McConnell, who literally melts all the time,” he joked. “But did he let that hold him back? No.”
