Ron Dientis Can’t Stop Tearing Joe Biden On The Florida Governors Debate Stage

During Florida’s one and only gubernatorial debate Monday night, Representative Charlie Crist lashed out at Governor Ron DeSantis over his 2024 presidential ambitions — criticizing him for launching a conservative crusade in hopes of gaining MAGA street cred.

DeSantis’ response was… to spend the entire evening derailing the person this Republican could face in two years’ time: President Joe Biden.

“Charlie Crist voted with Joe Biden 100 percent of the time,” DeSantis began when first asked about rising gas prices.

“We have the worst inflation in 40 years…thanks to the Biden Crest policies,” he said, when talking about the rising costs of home insurance in Florida.

On inflation: “We know these are the effects of Biden Crest’s policies.”

On illegal immigration: “It’s all happening under the Biden administration.”

This ploy opened him to relentless derision by Crist, a former Republican governor who switched Democratic years ago and is now a congressman.

“Ron, you talk a lot about Joe Biden. I understand. You think you’re going to run against him. I can see how confused you might feel. But you’re running for governor. And I have a question for you. Why don’t you look people in the eyes in Florida and say, ‘If you get reelected,’ You will serve a full four-year term as governor. Yes or no?” Christ asked. “Yes or no, Ron?”

DeSantis glanced at the medium for a few seconds, then replied with an obvious insult: “The only worn old donkey I’m looking to put in the meadow is Charlie Crest.”

Crist has repeatedly demanded that DeSantis pledge he will remain focused on managing the affairs of the Sunshine State, which has been hit hard by a downward spiral of crises ranging from the most powerful and deadly hurricanes to climate change, the massive death toll from COVID-19, and Unprecedented rise in housing costs That made rents for homes and apartments expensive in the country.

“He won’t even tell you if he’s going to serve four years if you reelect him,” Crist said during his closing argument.

Until then, DeSantis won’t budge.

Since his election as governor in 2018 – in a row Trouble-worthy TV ads He praised then-President Donald Trump and made him cheer for his little boy to “build the wall” out of foam blocks – DeSantis was on a rampage from MAGA. In the name of freedom and transparency, he has passed laws that reduce abortion rights, single out gay children, limit transgender teens when playing sports, and increase government oversight of public school libraries to facilitate book bans. He also fired a democratically elected state attorney in Tampa from his public office over the attorney general’s refusal to crack down on abortion.

It is widely believed to be paving the way for a presidential run, although it remains unclear whether DeSantis would run if Trump tried to reclaim the White House he lost in 2020. But the governor clearly does not have the support of the former president. Privacy, Trump mocked DeSantis such as “fat”, “fake”, “grumpy” and “Boring. And in September, Trump appeared on social media generally shared An article further removed DeSantis and said that “now is not the time”.

Monday night’s debate was a preview of the DeSantis the nation could see in a couple of years: someone deeply intent on attacking whatever he sees as “awake.” On stage, he advocated the way he put public schools under a microscope, creating an environment where young children could not speak openly about their gay parents and teachers could not tell students how English settlers violently seized lands already inhabited by Native Americans.

“Saying this country was built on stolen land…that is not appropriate for our schools,” DeSantis said.

“We need to focus on education, and not make our schools political war zones,” Crist responded, adding later, “He talks about dividing us all night. Who are you. That’s what you do.”

Christ attacked DeSantis for this aggressive expansion of government control in the name of conservative ideals. The governor has repeatedly reminded that women are still feeling the brunt of the Supreme Court’s decision in June to overturn the decision. Raw vs. Wade He severely withdrew the protective measures that had allowed girls and women for 39 years to terminate their pregnancies with restraints.

I don’t want to ban abortion. I want to preserve a woman’s right to choose in Florida… That’s cruel, it’s barbaric, and it’s wrong. If you want better, Krist said, I hope you vote quietly.

The hour-long discussion, moderated by WPEC reporter Liz Quirants, took place at the Sunrise Theater in Fort Pierce. The unruly crowd completely ignored the rules, and loud fans took turns supporting either candidate – and some angry punches at the seated governor. When DeSantis backtracked on a time-tested conservative argument by accurately describing how late abortions “rip a baby’s limb from limb,” one person in the crowd yelled, “Liar!” (missing context: Abortions performed after 21 weeks are extremely uncommon, accounting for 1 percent of all abortions in the United States and usually only performed when one’s life is in danger due to abnormalities.)

Despite all the talk about the governor’s dreams of being in the White House, Crest reserved one particular criticism that will follow DeSantis into 2024: his lethal tactics. Crest criticized the governor for embezzling taxpayers’ money to pay contractors who lied to unsuspecting and desperate Venezuelans fleeing a socialist dictator, and sent families with a pregnant woman and her baby on a charter trip to Massachusetts’ wealthy Martha’s Vineyard in September.

“It’s not funny, it’s not right, and you were inhumane in the way you treated these people,” Krist said.
