Corruption is an attribute that affects how healthy your character is, or rather, how much health you don’t have. This increased patch prevents your character from being able to fully heal itself and reduces your maximum health the more Corruption you have. During your missions, you will likely have noticed this by the purple bar that slowly fills your health from the right side.

You gain corruption in many ways, the first being when you are down and need to freshen up, which gives you a great deal of corruption and thus harms your overall health. You can also earn Corruption when fighting certain enemies, such as elites and specialized units, though these increase significantly less than the drops. Then you have Grimoires, a collectible item for one of the game’s secondary objectives, that gives you and all your teammates a 25% drop in health that can’t be undone for the rest of the mission in exchange for bigger rewards, which means you’ll be able to. You want to make sure that you and your allies are ready for the added challenge.

The only way to get rid of Corruption is to find the Medicae station, which can be found at certain points during the mission. These stations will heal you back to full health and remove any Corruption you have, with the exception of any Grimoires gained. These are usually located at the beginning, middle, and end of levels, and act somewhat like markers for your progress. A couple of things to mention with Medicae stations, they can have a maximum of four uses, but this varies between each station and the difficulty you’re on, which means that on higher difficulties, there are fewer chances to use them, so you’ll need to prioritize those who need them most. There are also cases where you need to find a power source to power it, which can usually be found near the station.
