How to tell when a shiny Pokémon is in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Unfortunately, unlike in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it can sometimes be difficult to create a shiny Pokémon from regular Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. They don’t give a glimmer in the open world anymore, they only shine when you start a battle with them. With this said, you need to focus on the colors of the Pokémon that you pass through in the wild.

Each Pokémon has a single shiny look that is consistent whenever you see it in the wild. For example, a shiny Lechonk will always appear as a hot pink version of the Pokémon. Unfortunately, some shiny Pokemon are hard to notice the differences. Depending on the time of day and location, you might think that the Pokemon is shining when it’s standing in the shadows or that the game is experiencing a bit of a graphical glitch.

If you are not sure if your Pokemon is shiny or not, we recommend starting a battle with it. If it’s shiny, it will give off a shine at the start of the match letting you know for sure. If you don’t feel like getting into a fight, you can bring up the camera by pressing down on the d-pad and take a good look at the Pokemon before entering.
