Here’s a list of what we think are the five best PlayStation 4 and 5 games released in 2022.

The charming Stray lets players control a furry protagonist in a dystopian world inhabited by robots. The neon lights, narrow streets and alleys create an atmosphere suitable for a cyberpunk world without the presence of humans. However, the robots you interact with differ from each other through their personalities and activities.

Playing the game from the cat’s perspective brings a variety of neat activities such as pushing plant pots or scratching at walls and even the occasional meow. The puzzles and occasional encounters with Tardigrades are well designed and don’t feel repetitive at all. With the game available on PlayStation Plus, this is a must-play.

4. Elden Ring

  • Released February 24, 2022
  • Developed by FromSoftware Inc.
  • Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment

The long-awaited and critically acclaimed fantasy RPG from Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware is definitely one for the ages. The Elden Ring takes the traditional Soulsborne formula and puts it in a beautifully crafted open world. Environmental storytelling takes center stage in the game, with each area properly designed to make them stand out from each other. Not to mention the large number of bosses that will keep you occupied for hours.

One of the advantages of Elden Ring is how forgiving it is against FromSoftware’s other titles. But, there is still a steep learning curve one must follow to survive in this beautiful yet deadly world. Detailed side quests and interesting characters you will encounter will make your journey through The Lands Between unforgettable.

3. The Last of Us, Part One

  • Released September 2, 2022
  • Developed by Naughty Dog
  • Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment

The Last of Us Part I is a faithful remake of the original released in 2013 by Naughty Dog exclusively for PlayStation 5. The visual improvements and improvements are amazing, to say the least. While the graphics from nearly a decade ago still hold up in some ways mainly due to the 2016 remaster, Naughty Dog didn’t cut any corners to put together Joel and Ellie’s journey once again.

Truth be told, major improvements to character models, stories, and immersion in general. But the main addition will be the accessibility options that greatly improve the experience. And with some fixing around the edges, The Last of Us Part I is an emotional ride well worth experiencing again.

2. The horizon is forbidden west

Horizon Forbidden West is definitely one of the best open world games in recent memory. The game looked like its predecessor in every way – and it does. Exploration, gameplay and, of course, its fantastic open world, make this title from Guerilla Games a must-have for PlayStation owner.

The number of activities that the player has to perform in this game is massive; From exploring cauldrons to some ancient puzzles or engaging in some robot battles. Or when you’re bored, you can take in the beautiful scenery of the West from a hang glider. Aloy herself is also a more nuanced character from the first game. Guerilla Games has built on the foundations of the first game and created a true modern marvel that we consider to be one of the PlayStation greats.

1. God of War Ragnarok

  • Released November 9, 2022
  • Developed by Santa Monica Studio
  • Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment

God of War Ragnarok was probably the most anticipated game of the year, depending on who you asked. Santa Monica Studio’s finale to the epic Norse Saga has duly established itself as one of the best games in recent memory, due to its emotionally engaging story as well as its refined combat system. The game features the wiser Kratos and the fierce Atreus, who make a dynamic duo in their fight against the Acer gods.

Exploration is also greatly improved with players having the ability to go to all nine worlds of the Norse world. Each world has its own distinct flora and fauna that add to the excitement of exploration. Ragnarok also has plenty of side activities; From hunting dragons to learning about the Norse runner, you’ll never get bored of immersing yourself in this beautifully designed world.
