Mykhaylo Mudryk is set to join up with the Shakhtar Donetsk team at their training camp with his agent warning to ‘trust only official information’ with Arsenal and Chelsea battle for his signature.

The 22-year-old is Arsenal’s top January transfer target with the Gunners seeing an opening offer worth £35.5m up front plus a further £17.7m in add-ons rejected by the Ukrainian club.

The Gunners are thought to have returned with a second offer but one that still falls significantly short of Shakhtar’s valuation which is in the region of the £85m Manchester United spent on Antony in the summer.

Reports have suggested Mudryk has already agreed to a five-year deal with Arsenal but Chelsea’s interest has complicated the issue.

With speculation intensifying over his client’s future, Mudryk’s agent Oleksiy Alyokhin has suggested there is no deal with either London club in place with the winger ready to join up with his Shakhtar teammates as they prepare for the resumption of the Ukrainian league.

“Mudryk is a Shakhtar player and the decision on his transfer will be made by the management of the Donetsk club,” Alyokhin told sports arena.

‘Mykhailo is now preparing to go with Shakhtar to the training camp. Trust only official information.’

Chelsea are thought to have held positive talks with Shakhtar Donetsk this week after their director of football Darijo Srna traveled to the capital.

The former Croatia international was a guest at Stamford Bridge on Thursday as Chelsea fell to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Reports also suggest that Chelsea’s growing injury list, which now includes attacking options Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic, could also force their hand.

While Chelsea are hopeful of signing the player, the Guardian report if given the choice between the two London rivals, Mudryk would opt for a move to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Shakhtar have persistently used the £85m fee United paid Ajax for Antony as a price guide for any deal for Mudryk. Their deputy sporting director, Carlo Nicolini said this week: ‘Given that we have no need for transfers, we said in due time that we evaluate the player stronger than some other profiles, such as Antony. This is the benchmark.

‘The problem is that Italian clubs don’t take advantage of opportunities, like Milan with Enzo Fernandez, who is now worth over 100 million.

‘When you arrive in time on a player you have to sink the shot, otherwise the prices change.’
