Best sword fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has all kinds of representation from various gaming franchises, but a quick look at the list can reveal one event that is common to them. There are many sword wielding characters here, and they all have unique abilities that make them stand out from the crowd. We’re not quite sure how Link got so good at bringing all his gear to attack Mario, but he’s certainly not the only one. Here are the ten best sword fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Cloud was one of the characters that didn’t really have a guaranteed chance of returning from Smash for Wii U and 3DS until everyone was shown here. Final Fantasy’s biggest face comes equipped with his huge Buster Sword and can deal massive damage to anyone who gets within range of it. His special charges raise his limit meter manually quickly, or you can slowly build it up over time by doing damage. As he fills up, this greatly increases the effectiveness of his special attacks for a single move and gives him better movement. Cloud does not take much getting used to in order to be a viable choice for gamers.

a hero

The hero represents many of the previous Dragon Quest series heroes. This DLC character features an MP meter that players will need to manage during combat. Depending on the special attacks you decide to use, your MP meter will deplete. If the meter is empty, you won’t be able to cash in those special moves until it replenishes or you become KO’d. If you are able to use these properly in conjunction with his other attacks, you can seriously defeat your opponent.

One of Nintendo’s biggest icons, at least one version of Link should appear on this list. This one is from Breath of the Wild, sporting its hero jacket and unique bomb move that can be detonated at your command just like in its original game. Other than that, this is basically the same bond we’ve loved for decades and a solid choice to fight with.

Meta Knight

Meta Knight is one of Kirby’s biggest rivals, and while his pink puffball unfortunately doesn’t appear on this list, he’s a character with a history of infamy for more serious gamers. Meta Knight moves quickly, can flap its wings to fly a bit, and has plenty of deadly combos. In the right hands, this is a deadly weapon that can take over the fight while being fast enough to avoid a lot of incoming damage.

Pera / Mithra

Pyra & Mythra is unique in that you get a two-for-one deal. Pyra and Mythra can switch between them at any moment, so you’ll have access to wielders of heavy and light swords at will. It’s incredibly easy to use as you can deal damage like Mythra with her quick moves and then seal the deal with Pyra’s slow but powerful attacks. The range that they have in the air is pretty incredible as they give almost 180 degrees upwards; This can come in handy when you have a player who is near death and is getting hit in the sky. Both personal ranges are amazing. Pyra can throw her sword like a cannonball that can burn her enemies to a brittle point, while Mythra can sweep them through with a surprisingly broad barrage of blows.

Roy

After he first appeared in Smash in Melee, lost in Brawl, and then returned in Smash Wii U and 3DS as DLC, many Fire Emblem and swords fans were happy to see Roy present in Smash Ultimate. While he drops like a rock, Roy can land an incredibly powerful blow with his neutral B and can land finishing blows on a character like no one on the list. This was the original Marth clone, so most players will have an easy time understanding how it works and how to put it to good use.

Sephiroth

Sephiroth may be one of the most powerful characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but if you’ve played Final Fantasy VII before, you’ll know she’s a good fit. His comically long sword can strike opponents two or three paces away, and like Pyra & Mythra, Sephiroth’s slashing range is a deadly 180 degrees. In addition, it is a pricking machine, and if the tip of the sword hits correctly, you will deal more damage. His projectiles are very powerful. Gigaflare can take out your opponents with about 40% damage when fully charged, and his side B Shadow Flare, once hit, can stay around opponents for about five seconds. All of these are killer options for eliminating anyone who gets too close.

Shulk

Shulk’s biggest advantage over most other sword warriors (perhaps all besides Sephiroth) is his range. The Monado’s blade can extend and make his attacks go further than they initially appear. The neutral special also allows him to temporarily boost his smashing, jumping, speed, shielding, or striking abilities, giving him a huge advantage when used in appropriate situations.

Sora

For the longest time, it seemed like Sora’s coming to Super Smash Bros. It would be an impossible task with the number of cases Nintendo would need to make this happen through both Square Enix and Disney, but never forget how much Sakurai spoiled us. Sora is a very floating character, being one of the lightest in the game, which allows him to stay in the air for a long time in aerial battles. His abilities are fast-moving and can inflict damage percentage on enemies.

Youth Link

The second of three Links that appears on this list is Young Link from Ocarina of Time. Seeing him included in the Everybody’s Here trailer was one of the most exciting moments, and it was his first appearance in a Smash since Melee. Despite being shorter than Breath of the Wild Link, Young Link is faster and equipped with fire arrows. It’s basically exactly the same as it was in Melee, the Lon Lon Milk satire and all.
