The Composter in Minecraft is a block that will turn crops, plants, and other compostable materials into bone meal. This is great, because anyone who’s had a decent farm in Minecraft will attest to how much bone meal you’ll need to help fertilize your plants right away. To make a composter, you will need to place seven of any kind of U-shaped planks on your crafting table, leaving the top and middle squares open. They must be from the same type of wood, mix and match will not work. You can craft planks by placing three planks in the crafting table, along the bottom row. Manure can also spawn in all villages, and you can take it.

What does a composter do?

Compost is used to create bone meal once the plant material has been added to the compost. By adding an item to Composter, you have the opportunity to add a layer of compost. Different items in the game have different chance of adding compost. For a complete list of items and their opportunity to add compost, we suggest checking out the Minecraft GamePedia page.

Once you have collected seven layers of compost in your compost, you can then use it one last time to collect bone meal. You can also use compost in conjunction with the hoppers to have the hopper automatically collect bone meal and deposit it into bins. To do this, place the Composter on the top side of the hopper with the bin attached underneath.

In addition, manure can grant villagers a farmer’s profession so that you can trade farming-related items with them. Only one villager can use Composter to change their profession.
