There is no “official” list of notification sounds to choose from when you start using Discord, but there is still a way to change them. This may be more challenging than you think but it is achievable. Read on to find out how to change the Discord notification sound.

How to change Discord notification sound on PC

If you’re using the Discord app on your Windows PC, you can change the Discord notification sounds, but only if you’re using the desktop app. Discord can be customized enough for us to edit votes even if it doesn’t have a preset for it.

The first step would be to go through the application flies and using a plugin called BetterDiscord. With Files, you can change the notification sound by editing the configuration files that the application saves on your computer by itself.

Follow the steps below to change Discord voices in files:

  • Download the sounds you want to use in Discord.

  • Type the following: ‘%appdate%’ and click OK.
  • Open the folder that appears. (It will most likely be under C:/Use/Username/Appdata/Roaming.)
  • Next, go to the Discord app and open the Cache folder.
  • The audio files are listed with “F_prefix” and you’ll need to add the .mp3 or .wav extension to each file to check the effects played on each.
  • Now, to replace your Discord sounds with custom ones, rename the new sound file with a name that matches Discord so everything stays organized and working.
  • Then copy the downloaded sounds and rewrite them in / Appdata / Roaming / Discord / Cache.

However, it’s normal to feel anxious about messing with the Discord app’s files, and if you don’t want to, you can use BetterDiscord which is a client mode that you can download and you can modify the app’s appearance and functionality. You can use the mode to customize by simply opening the custom plugins.

Change Discord Voices with BetterDiscord

  • Download and install BetterDiscord on your computer. Once downloaded and complete, BetterDiscord will replace the official Discord app, so don’t worry that you’ve made a mistake.
  • Open the app and tap Settings.
  • Under BetterDiscord, click on Plugins and open the empty Plugins folder.
  • Download the notification plugin from your desired website.
  • Now once you download the plugin, drag it into the empty plugins folder you created.
  • Go to the Discord Plugins settings again and turn on the Notification Sound option and you’re good to go.

How to Change Discord Sounds on Mobile (Android)

There are two different ways to change your phone’s Discord notification sounds either through your phone’s notification settings or directly from the Discord mobile app.

  • Open the Settings menu on your mobile phone.
  • Click on the application and click on Manage Application.
  • Select the Discord app.
  • Click on Manage Notifications and hit the Allow button.
  • Now look for the Call option, or you can select Direct Messages, Messages, Live Event, or other things you might want to change for the app and its sound notifications.
  • After opening this, you can choose a sound from the list.

  • Open discord.
  • Click on your profile and open the user settings menu.
